Dorset Foodie Feed was started in 2011 by John as West Dorset Foodie. John’s love for great food, fishing and helping people grew the site and he started taking on new writers across Dorset in 2015. In 2015 there were 4 sites – West Dorset Foodie, East Dorset Foodie, North Dorset Foodie and Purbeck Foodie and in 2017 all 4 sites were combined together to create Dorset Foodie Family.
In November 2018, John stepped down from running the site and Heather took over. Heather ran Dorset Foodie Feed and all the social channels associated with the website until Summer 2023.
In 2020, Heather took the site through a significant rebuild and changed the name from Dorset Foodie Family to Dorset Foodie Feed. During the Covid 19 pandemic and lockdown, Heather created lists of food and drink businesses that were still open to help connect local businesses with customers. These lists were accessed more than 20,000 times in 2020 and provided help for both customers and businesses.
As lockdown eased, those lists became a searchable directory and with small grant from Dorset Growth Hub, this became a free searchable map connecting over 650 Dorset businesses to thousands of local people. Heather also wrote to every business listed in the Directory in 2021 to thank them for all that they did to continue serving their community through the Pandemic.
After hundreds of reviews of local businesses and many recipes, being run by John and Heather who, as volunteers, gave thousands of hours, fueled only by the odd free meal here and there.
Dorset Foodie Feed closed in Summer 2023.
Thank you to all those who wrote for Dorset Foodie Feed over the years, to all the amazing business owners and chefs who have inspired us over the years and to all the readers who supported us.
